Mawani is one of Ghana’s promising new female artists, recently introduced on the discovery segment of Penpensiwa with Obomengniibaa Nana Akua on AsaasePa 107.3. She shared her journey, challenges, and aspirations as she builds her career in music.
Her music journey began in 2019, inspired by Kwesi Arthur. A playful challenge from her brother to write music together turned into a defining moment when her lyrics impressed him so much that he encouraged her to take music seriously.
Explaining the story behind her stage name, Mawani said she wanted something unique. “I didn’t want anything common, so I took inspiration from a classmate’s surname that I liked,” she revealed.
As a woman in a male dominated industry, she is mindful of the effort it takes to stand out. “I know as a woman there are a lot of sacrifices I have to make, and I have to work ten times harder,” she said.
Though currently unsigned, financial challenges have been her biggest obstacle. Still, she is determined to push through and not let them slow her down. Her versatility is one of her strongest assets. From drill to hip hop, trap, and afrobeats, Mawani has shown her creativity with songs like Club House and Feelings.
With her talent, determination, and fresh sound, Mawani is positioning herself to make an impact both in Ghana and on the international stage.
