MASLOC disburses GHC1 million to Oda market fire victims

The disbursement of the loan is in line with President Nana Akufo-Addo’s promise to provide financial support to the affected persons to revamp their businesses

The Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has disbursed a total of GHC1 million to some 500 victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Akyem Oda Central Market.

The move is part of government’s intervention to support market women in the municipality whose goods were destroyed by fire some months ago.

Speaking to Asaase News, the CEO of MASLOC, Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakaria said the disbursement of the loan is in line with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s promise to provide financial support to the affected persons to revamp their businesses.

“We are here at the instance of the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The president when he was on a tour in the Eastern Region, came to inspect the damages and then he promised that MASLOC was going to assist the market women together with Ghana Enterprises Agency. Right now, we have come to fulfil the promise that the president has made,” she said.

The senior advisor to the president, Yaw Osafo-Marfo charged the beneficiaries to desist from using the money for other expenses.  He urged the victims to rather use the funds to expand their businesses to ensure they pay back the loans in time.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Asaase News expressed their gratitude to President Akufo Addo for coming to their aid.

On 13 September 2021 at about 2050 hours, fire broke out at the Akim Oda Central Market destroying wares and property running into thousands of Ghana Cedis.
