Manhyia receives police report on rising land conflicts in Ashanti Region

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has received a report from the Ashanti Regional Police Command detailing a growing number of land disputes among traditional authorities in Asanteman.

The report, presented by Regional Police Commander DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe three days ago, includes a list of chiefs involved in the disputes, the Asantehene disclosed during a meeting of the Asanteman Council on Thursday.

Denouncing the trend, Otumfuo directed that all land-related disputes among chiefs must be brought before him for resolution, warning against resorting to violence.

“If you think another chief has taken part of your land, bring the issue before me and I will look into it. You don’t have to take the law into your hand and engage in violence,” he said.

The King indicated that he would summon the chiefs mentioned in the report individually and privately for discussions to address the issues.

He also urged all those involved in land disputes to exercise restraint until he has reviewed the matters.

“Don’t push me to summon you publicly. Put everything on hold until I review the disputes,” the Asantehene cautioned.
