Mamponghene condemns violence at NDC office, warns against tribal tensions

Speaking during a meeting with the leadership of the NDC, the Mamponghene expressed deep disappointment over the incident and condemned the use of tribal sentiments by some individuals involved in the chaos

The Paramount Chief of Mampong, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, has issued a stern warning to political actors following a violent altercation at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party office in Mampong, Ashanti Region.

Supporters of the ruling party staged two days of protests over the nomination of a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), accusing party leadership of sidelining local preferences.

Speaking during a meeting with the leadership of the NDC, the Mamponghene expressed deep disappointment over the incident and condemned the use of tribal sentiments by some individuals involved in the chaos.

“Mampong and Asanteman do not belong to any political party. We are all Ghanaians,” Daasebre stated, adding, “All that happened at the party office was unfortunate. I was saddened by what happened. I don’t want that to happen again.”

He emphasized that he holds mutual respect for both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and expects the same level of maturity and leadership from all party officials and supporters.

“I hear you have been summoned, and all arrangements have been made. Do the needful or face my wrath. If you are an executive, show leadership. The party does not belong to you—it belongs to all of us,” the chief cautioned.

Addressing the rising tribal tensions, the Mamponghene warned against attempts to sow division in the community.

“To all those who spewed those tribal sentiments, I want this reversed. I don’t want any tribal war in Mampong.”

The NDC leadership assured the Mamponghene of their commitment to restoring calm and addressing grievances through dialogue and proper party structures.
