Ghanaian architect to grow bamboo plantation in Ghana

Speaking on The Asaase Breakfast Show, Joe Osae-Addo said, "So, I am personally growing the first plantation in Ghana by the end of this year"

Joe Osae-Addo, the CEO of Constructs R and D, has started a new adventure of bamboo plantation to promote sustainable management and harvesting of bamboo in Ghana.

Speaking on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (14 November), the Ghanaian architect said, “So, I am personally growing the first plantation in Ghana by the end of this year and also set up a company that processes bamboo into plywood, which can be used in construction.”

“I want to talk more about my latest venture which is Bamboo farming and bamboo processing, that is going to be my big push. Africa needs to contribute and look at how we can reduce cutting down of our forest reserves, and bamboo as a plant is a a great substitute for a lumber,” he added.

“Of course, I will combine students from KNUST and other architectural schools in Ghana, I am clearly trying to promote bamboo growing. There are so many good initiatives already by the government, the planting for food and jobs will fall under this and also the 1D1F,” said Osae-Addo.

“So my first plantation is going to be in a small town in the North West of Aburi Botanical Gardens where the chief in that community has invited me to do my first plantation.”

He also advised well resourced Ghanaians to purchase building materials manufactured in Ghana to give credibility to Ghanaian goods.

“Ghanaians love to see that important people are using the materials because it gives it credibility. So, let’s get our parliamentarians to use these materials in the construction of schools, hospitals…

“Not using the materials make it look like there are non durable materials in Ghana. So, once officials of governments are using it, I think the masses will follow,” he said.
