The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor has called on the people of Buipe in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region to unite and live in peace to pave way for development in the area.
The Lands Minister was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people at the Buipewura’s Palace in Buipe.
He noted that peace and unity are key in bringing development to the area.
Abu Jinapor expressed worry about the low standards of education in the region which he said must be of great concern to the people.
“When it comes to educational standards, Savannah Region is the lowest among the sixteen regions of Ghana. Those are the matters that should occupy our attention as people of Savannah, as Gonjas,” Jinapor added.
The minister appealed to the people of Buipe to desist from tribal and political division and come together for development.
“Those times must be times for the past, let us come together for development,” he said.
In his address, the paramount chief of the Buipe traditional area, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, called on the youth of Buipe to remain calm to enjoy the relative peace they have had in the area over the years.
Buipewura also to appealed to the minister to use his good office to facilitate some developmental projects in the area including the dying Buipe Shea Processing factory to curb unemployment in the area.
“I wish to make a passionate appeal to you to particularly help in every way possible to revive the dying shea nut factory”, Buipewura said.
Buipewura said he is committed to improving the livelihood of the people.
Buipe is the biggest town and gateway from the South to the North. The town is also known to be the industrial town of the North but has seen less development.
