The police have reiterated caution about the need for Ghanaians, especially religious groups and leaders to be measured in their utterances, especially how they communicate prophecies.
According to the police, over the years, communication of prophecies of harm, danger and death, by some religious leaders, has created tension and panic in the Ghanaian society and put the lives of many people in fear and danger.
It has, therefore, declared 27 December 2022 as Prophecy Communication Compliance Day.
A statement issued by the police on Tuesday (27 December), commended the public especially religious bodies for complying with the directive since it was issued last year.
“A year ago, today, 27 December 2021, the Ghana Police Service drew the attention of the general public, especially members of the religious community to the law regarding the communication of prophecies and urged compliance to the law to ensure continuous security and law and order in the country.
“We wish to commend the public, particularly religious groups, for their cooperation over the period by being circumspect and conscious of the law and adopting legally acceptable means of communication prophecies to those affected.”
“As the year 2022 draws to a close, we wish to once again entreat the general public, especially faith-based groups to ensure continuous compliance with the law as it relates to communication of prophecies, the police statement said.
