President John Dramani Mahama has called on the people of Akwatia to throw their support behind the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, in Tuesday’s by-election.
Delivering the President’s message at the party’s final rally on Sunday (31 August), Chief of Staff Julius Debrah said the NDC’s development agenda for Akwatia could only be realised if the constituency voted to retain the seat.
“The President’s message is simple: Vote for Bernard Baidoo, and together we shall build a future of jobs, dignity, and development for Akwatia,” Mr Debrah told the charged crowd, which responded with thunderous approval.
He described Baidoo, a 40-year-old lawyer, as the ideal candidate to transform government’s policies into meaningful projects that would directly benefit the people of Akwatia.
The rally turned into a show of force for the NDC, with hundreds of enthusiastic supporters waving party paraphernalia and chanting slogans in support of their candidate.
The by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, 2 September, will see Baidoo face off against the New Patriotic Party’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu, a 40-year-old licensed small-scale miner. The contest follows the passing of the constituency’s MP, Ernest Kumi.
