Mahama to Adutwum: Closing down non-performing schools “nonsensical”

The education minister Yaw Adutwum last week indicated that non-performing schools will be closed down and affected students are to be redistributed to nearby schools

Former president John Mahama has condemend the decision by the Minister of Education to close down non-performing schools in Ghana.

Dr Yaw Adutwum last week indicated that non-performing schools will be closed down and affected students are to be redistributed to nearby schools for them to continue their education and become relevant to the nation.

However, addressing party supporters as part of his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region over the weekend, Mahama described the education minister’s move as “nonsensical”.

“The government must rather assess reasons why the schools are not performing,” Mahama said. “Maybe they don’t have adequate teachers or furniture to make learning easy, so they can perform.”

“The suggestion by the education minister to close down non-performing schools and enroll the students in other schools is unacceptable and nonsensical,” he added.
