Mahama marks anniversary of election win, renews pledge to “reset Ghana”

Government/Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday marked the first anniversary of his 2024 election victory with a message of gratitude to voters and a renewed commitment to what he calls a national reset.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Mahama said the December 7 election a year ago reflected “one powerful voice” from Ghanaians who were determined to “reclaim our future.” He thanked supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and described the party’s grassroots as the “heartbeat” of the win.

Mahama credited polling agents for safeguarding ballots, saying their vigilance helped counter what he claimed were attempts to manipulate the electoral process. He said the call for agents to act as “our own referees” was designed to blunt any effort to subvert the vote.

He also praised party executives, campaign strategists and operational teams for planning that he said neutralised the ruling New Patriotic Party’s manoeuvres.

Mahama reiterated his commitment to what he terms the Resetting Ghana agenda, promising a government that operates without “discrimination, exclusion or favouritism.” He said his administration, together with Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, would focus on expanding opportunities and rebuilding trust in public institutions.

Addressing supporters, he urged the NDC to remain steadfast, saying their long-term reward was the prospect of a fairer and more just country rather than positions in government.

“The journey continues,” Mahama wrote, calling the past year a step toward fulfilling the party’s “Build the Ghana We Want” vision.
