PLAYBACK: Mahama launches campaign in Ho

This will be the official announcement of his interest to contest the presidential race in the upcoming 2024 general elections

Former president John Dramani Mahama will launch his campaign for flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress on Thursday 2 March at the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho.

This will be the official announcement of his interest to contest the presidential race in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

An official statement released on Wednesday 1 March by the Volta regional secretary of the party, James Gunu, said the presidential hopeful will embark on a campaign tour to all 18 constituencies of the region.

“He will immediately embark on a tour of the constituencies after the launch to interact with delegates,” Gunu said.

Mahama will interact with delegates in Ho Central, Ho West, Adaklu, Hohoe, Afadzato South, North Dayi and Kpando constituencies on Thursday.

On Friday, he will be in Central Tongu, South Tongu, Akatsi North, Akatsi South, Agortime-Ziope and Ketu North constituencies. He will end the tour on Saturday 4 March in Ketu South, Keta, Anloga and North Tongu constituencies.

The presidential hopeful will visit and pay “his last respects to the late paramount chief of the Ziope Traditional Area [one of the 55 paramountcies in the region] and former member of the council of state, Togbe Bina Lawluvi VI,” the statement noted.

This is the first time in history that Mahama launches his bid to contest the presidential race in the Volta Region.

Members of the NDC in the Ho Central constituency who spoke to Asaase News said the move by the former president is in order. It will bring the party closer to the people of the Volta Region.
