Mahama discusses food security and economic growth with Olam officials in Singapore

President John Mahama and members of his Cabinet met with Sunny Verghese, Group Co-Founder and Group CEO, and senior business executives of Olam Agri and ofi (Olam Food Ingredients), during their official visit to Singapore last week.

The meeting, which took place at Olam’s Headquarters, affirms Olam Agri’s commitment to continue working closely with the public sector to enhance Ghana’s food security and socioeconomic development.

In attendance, along with Verghese, were the Group Operating Officer, Mr. Neelamani Muthukumar, the Global Head of Processing & Value-Added, Mr Saurabh Mehra, the Ghana Country Head, Baibhav Biswas, and the Ghana Head of Finance, Raghav Mandhana.

Since its inception in Ghana in 1994, Olam Agri has evolved from a trading business into a fully integrated food processing company in Ghana. The company’s operations span sourcing, processing, packaging, and distribution, ensuring consistent delivery of quality food products across Ghana and West Africa.

Olam Agri’s primary operations in Ghana include its Grains and Rice businesses. The company’s flour milling operation is among the most advanced in the country, supplying high-quality wheat flour to industrial bakeries, SMEs, and households.

Additionally, Olam Agri is establishing Ghana’s first-ever pasta production facility, which will be able to meet the country’s total pasta demand in the future.

In the Rice Business, Olam Agri is a key player in the local rice value chain, with its Mama Gold Jasmine rice emerging as one of Ghana’s leading local rice brands.

Through strategic partnerships with over 4,000 local farmers and multiple processing units across key rice-producing regions, Olam Agri already contributes significantly to national food security and rural economic development. In addition, with approximately 95% of its employees being Ghanaian, Olam Agri was recognised as an employer of choice for the fourth consecutive year in 2024 by the Top Employer Institute.

Olam Agri’s trusted collaboration with governments, communities, customers, and farming partners empowers African agricultural development and ensures that its growth strategy remains closely aligned with the continent’s evolving needs.
