Central Gonja: Support flood victims, says Buipewura

At least 500 inhabitants have been rendered homeless by the flood, which also destroyed several properties belonging to the locals

The Paramount chief for the Buipe traditional area Abdulai Jinapor II has called on authorities to assist flood victims who have been rendered homeless following the overflow of the Black Volta.

The Buipewura and the DCE of the area Salia Iddrisu Kamara visited the affected places to ascertain the level of damage to structures.

“We are here to cry to the whole world, the government, the Bui Authority and philanthropists to come and save the situation, we are really in distress,” the traditional leader said.


The Buipewura II appealed to the government and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to as a matter of urgency support the victims.

The NADMO director in charge of operations in the district Ishmail Tahiru said his outfit is putting resources together to help the affected persons.

“We are putting our resources together,” he said. “Currently, we are able to secure one school that we are able to evacuate the victims to for the meantime, actually there are economic activities that are down, children are affected.”
