The online portal has been integrated on the association’s website, www.ghanabar.org. Users of the service subsequently are required to click on the link to the lawyer portal to gain access to the “lawyer locator” page.

Users can search out lawyers using names, area of practice, location of practice (region), gender, year of call to the Bar, chambers/legal department.

In a brief presentation, Kwaku Boadu, the technical director of GBA, explained that members of the general public who log on to the portal are at liberty to choose any lawyer listed on the portal.

“When you click on a lawyer’s name, a ‘contact lawyer’ box will open alongside the information displayed on the lawyer. You may then send a message directly to the registered email address of the lawyer by filling the form and clicking ‘lawyer’.

“It will then lie entirely with the lawyer to respond to you or not, and decide whether to permit further communication with you or not,” Boadu said.

After the brief ceremony to launch the “lawyer locator” portal, Anthony Forson told journalists that the web based directory is designed to assist the general public to access the pool of lawyers in good standing with the association to assist them get their cases properly adjudicated.

“Once you go to ghanabar.org, any member of the public, a judge, the Chief Justice, anybody can access it. The people (lawyers) who are found on the list are members who are in good standing, that is the only differentiating point,” the Bar president said.
