The Church of Jesus Christ has officially launched this year’s Light the World Christmas season with a devotional service at the Christiansborg Stake Center in Accra.
The Friday evening gathering brought together families, students, clergy, and community members to reflect on the birth and example of Jesus Christ through worship, music, and messages of hope.
Representing the Guest of Honour, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, former Finance Minister and special presidential advisor on the economy, Seth Terkper, urged Ghanaians to enter the season with a renewed sense of purpose.
“I hope we carry with us a renewal of our commitment to live wherever we are planted, either in the religious world or in the general community, serving our people and the nation. For the students here, I urge you to live with excellence. For the parents here, I urge you to live with love.
For the faith leaders here, continue to lead with courage. And for those of us in public service, let us lead with integrity, compassion, and a steady conviction that faith is not a private treasure but a public responsibility and a public trust.”

Terkper called on Ghanaians—particularly the youth—to demonstrate excellence, integrity, and kindness as acts of faith, saying such values reflect the true essence of Christmas.
Addressing the media after the devotional, Presiding Elder Adeyinka Ojediran explained that the Light the World initiative encourages Christians to perform daily acts of kindness throughout December. He said the church will roll out a series of community service projects, donations, and outreach activities across the country.
“People first think about the light as we saw today, but because Christ is light, he brings light into the world to chase away darkness. From December 1st, there are things that children of God are invited to do — like a calendar — one act of service each day throughout the month.
“There will be many presentations and donations. Next week in Kumasi, there’s going to be an event to commission some projects. But we don’t want to take the focus away from Jesus Christ. We can have donations and commission projects, but Jesus Christ is more than that. The focus is that light that has come into the world and for us to embrace that light.”
The Light the World campaign, observed globally by members of the church, aims to inspire individuals and communities to emulate Jesus Christ through simple, meaningful acts of kindness.
This year’s observance in Ghana will include charity drives, youth-led outreach, and programmes designed to bring comfort to vulnerable groups during the festive season.
The church says the initiative is not just a Christmas tradition but a reminder of the enduring message of Christ — love, service, and light in a world that often needs it most.
