Law student appointed deputy SEC boss
President Mahama has appointed Mensah Thompson, Executive Director of ASEPA, as the new Acting Deputy Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)

President John Mahama has appointed Mensah Thompson, Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), as the Acting Deputy Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Thompson, who is currently a Part 1 student at the Ghana School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), is expected to bring his legal acumen and civil society experience to bear in strengthening regulatory oversight and promoting good governance in Ghana’s capital markets.
His appointment comes at a time when the SEC is undergoing significant reforms aimed at restoring investor confidence following years of market volatility and high-profile financial sector cleanups. With a background in public accountability, Thompson’s entry into the Commission’s leadership is viewed as a strategic move to enhance transparency and enforcement within the securities sector.
Thompson will serve under the Acting Director-General, James Klutse Avedzi, who succeeded Rev. Daniel Ogbarmey Tetteh. The two are expected to work closely to drive forward the SEC’s mandate of maintaining market integrity and protecting investors.
The SEC oversees critical players in Ghana’s capital market ecosystem, including licensed market operators, fund managers, and collective investment schemes.
