Laboratory workers at KATH withdraw full service

The staff have for the past week been protesting against the appointment of two physicians to the hospital's Laboratory Services Department as clinical haematologists

Laboratory workers at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have announced total withdrawal of their service as their strike intensifies, effective today 27 May 2021, a statement has said.

It follows the inability of management of KATH to address concerns raised by the workers exactly a week ago.

A statement issued and signed by the chairman of the local branch of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Workers said they are yet to see any commitment from management about their issue.

The workers are protesting against management after two physicians – Leslie Osei and Eunice Agyemang Ahmed – were posted to the hospital’s Laboratory Services Department (LSD) as clinical haematologists.

The week-long strike is part of a series of actions to be taken to resist the move as the two officers remain at the LSD unit.

Already, the leadership of the GAMLS are backing their members as they warn of dire consequences if the impasse is not resolved.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists said it will not accept any form of capping although it has no problem working with any group of health professionals in advancing the cause of patient care.

Below is the statement:
