Laboratory workers at KATH on strike

The staff are protesting against the appointment of two physicians to the hospital's Laboratory Services Department as clinical haematologists

Laboratory workers at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) are on strike following the inability of hospital authorities to address their concerns.

The workers are protesting against management after two physicians – Leslie Osei and Eunice Agyemang Ahmed – were posted to the hospital’s Laboratory Services Department (LSD) as clinical haematologists.

The strike is part of a series of actions to be taken to resist the move as the two officers remain at the LSD unit.

Already leadership of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) are backing their members as they warn of dire consequences if the impasse is not resolved.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists said it will not accept any form of capping although it has no problem working with any group of health professionals in advancing the cause of patient care.

It follows concerns raised by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) about the decision of the laboratory workers to embark on a strike over the appointment of the two physicians as clinical haematologists at KATH.

A statement issued by the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist said no amount of threat will force them to change their position.
