We are fully contesting in the Ejisu by-election, says CPP

The CPP clarified that the injunction placed on the by-election was initiated by former Ashanti Regional Chairman Emmanuel Gallo in his personal capacity and does not represent the party's stance

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has announced its intention to participate in the upcoming Ejisu by-election, scheduled for 30 April 2024. In a statement released on 24 April 2024 and signed by the party’s Director of Communications Sylvester Soprano, the party denied claims that it had placed an injunction on the parliamentary by-election.

The CPP clarified that the court process was initiated by former Ashanti Regional Chairman Emmanuel Gallo in his capacity and does not represent the party’s stance.

The lawsuit claims that the party had communicated its decision not to participate in the by-election to the Electoral Commission on 18 April, and as such, it is seeking to prevent Esther Osei from representing the party.

The CPP statement emphasised that the party is “participating fully” in the by-election with Midwife Esther Osei as their parliamentary candidate.

“We are participating fully in the upcoming by-election at Ejisu with Midwife Esther Osei as our indefatigable parliamentary candidate,” the statement read. “We remain confident in her ability to represent the aspirations and interests of the people of Ejisu effectively.”

The CPP urged the public to disregard any false information suggesting that the party is hindering the electoral process.

“The CPP urges the general public to disregard any false information suggesting that the party is hindering the electoral process. We remain dedicated to upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.”
