Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh retains Sunyani East as NPP parliamentary candidate

The NPP Member of Parliament for Sunyani East secured 460 votes out of the 800 total valid votes cast

The Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh has retained the set as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the constituency in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The MP secured 460 votes out of the 800 total valid votes cast. His competitor, Ambassador George Kumi, on the other hand, polled 339 votes.

Following a decision by the National Executive Committee of the NPP, the Bono regional office was directed to use the 2018 album of delegates for the elections.

The deputy general secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed supervised the election and after the process urged NPP members to unite and work to retain Sunyani East for the party.

“We are very grateful to the two contestants. They have shown maturity in this particular contest. What I want to put out to the supporters is that this was an internal contest. The contest is over, there is no George Kumi, there is no Ameyaw Cheremeh, and there is NPP. We have to win this Sunyani East seat again and this is what we have to all stand for,” Haruna said.

In his acceptance speech, Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh called on party members to unite for the “breaking of the 8” to become a reality.

“This is not the first time the constituency has elected me. They have always voted for me to represent them in Parliament and they still have confidence in me despite all the challenges we’ve had as a constituency over the past two years. It shows that the party is resilient, strong and we are moving forward. We should all unit as members of the Sunyani East constituency and NPP for us to ‘break the 8’ come 7 December 2024,” Ameyaw said.

Ambassador George Kumi on his part called on party supporters and members to rally behind Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh for victory in the 7 December general elections.

“It is the New Patriotic Party that has won this Sunayni East parliamentary primary. I will entreat all party supporters and members to rally behind Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh for victory on 7 December 2024,” Kumi said.
