Kwabena Agyepong: I don’t think the Western world means well for Africa

Agyepong, who is in the race to become the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, said it is about time African leaders managed Africa’s resources judiciously to develop the continent

A candidate for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has said the Western world does not mean well for the African continent.

He said it is about time African leaders managed Africa’s resources judiciously to develop the continent.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (30 March), Agyepong said, “African leaders must look in the face of these Western leaders and know that they don’t mean well for us.

“They came to our countries without visas and colonised us, took out our resources and built theirs. So it’s a tragedy that we have to fall on the Western world for support. I don’t think they mean well for us.”

Agyepong added, “So we should be standing on our own and be firm. But the only way we can do that is to impose on ourselves proper discipline and proper management of the resources that has bestowed on us by God. And in that, I think, we haven’t done very well as a continent.”
