The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has launched a comprehensive campaign aimed at highlighting the inherent risks in various enterprises and promoting effective management strategies.
The campaign, themed “Creating Value with Effective Risk Management,” seeks to educate both staff and stakeholders on identifying, mitigating, and managing potential risks within the organisation and beyond.
Officials of the ORC on Friday (7 June) marched through the Central Business District of Adum in Kumasi as part of the month-long initiative.
A chief state attorney at the Ashanti regional office of the ORC Nana Ama Akyiaa Prempeh reaffirmed the state agency’s commitment to supporting businesses and promoting sustainable growth through effective risk management.
“We are dealing with human beings as stakeholders come to do registration. There are all sorts of risks associated with dealing with people, anger management, and even fire.”
“So, the purpose of this is to create awareness over June, all the possible risks how we can mitigate them and how we can transfer them. We are in collaboration with the fire service, police and other stakeholders to take us through such risks”, Prempeh said while raising awareness about the mandate of the ORC.
“Registering with us gives you credibility. If you are not registered, no bank will give you credit. You would want to create a niche for yourself when you do so. Some [Ghanaians] claim they do not know. So, we are using this opportunity to create awareness about the responsibilities of businesses and companies,” she added.
The campaign aims to enhance compliance and foster a culture of accountability and risk management among business owners. Prempeh therefore reminded companies and businesses in default to file their Annual Returns and Renewals as directed by the Registrar of Companies as the Office ends the validation process of the entities in default by 30 June 2024.
The ORC is the government of Ghana’s agency established by the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) with the purpose of facilitating orderly conduct of business and provision of business registration, insolvency, and regulatory services and in the process, to create an attractive business environment in the country.
