
A tragic incident occurred at the Kumasi Abrepo Junction traffic light on Friday (17 May), resulting in the death of an on-duty community police officer in her mid 20s.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim identified only as Tina and a main police officer were directing traffic, a routine task when the traffic lights malfunction.
At about 10:00 a.m., a private car suffered brake failure and lost control, hitting five people in the process.
“The officer was the first to be struck. She got trapped under a bus but was declared dead after a rescue mission”, an eyewitness recounted at the scene.
Among the injured was medicine seller, who is in critical condition along with three others.
Police on inspection saw blood stains at the resultant positions at the scene.
Important places were marked and pictures were taken to assist investigation.
The vehicle with registration number GS 9494-21 has since been impounded by the police. The driver has also been detained for questioning.
