Kumasi: blaze destroys shops and homes at Afful Nkwanta-Dagomba Line

A fire swept through Afful Nkwanta-Dagomba Line in Kumasi, destroying several wooden structures and leaving families and traders counting losses.

Kofi Obiri Yeboah, the Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region, said the blaze caused significant damage to property and livelihoods.

He said the Ghana National Fire Service had been alerted and was at the scene working to contain the fire.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have received news of the fire outbreak at Afful Nkwanta Dagomba Line, where several wooden structures have been destroyed,” Yeboah said in a Facebook post, adding that his “thoughts and prayers are with all the affected families and traders who have lost their livelihoods.”

No immediate casualties were reported. The cause of the fire was not disclosed, and officials were yet to release an estimate of losses.

The incident comes nearly a year after a major fire gutted parts of the Adum Blue Gate commercial area in Kumasi, renewing concerns about fire safety in densely built markets and informal settlements in the city.

The Ghana National Fire Service did not immediately comment on containment efforts or investigations underway.
