Kumasi blaze: Bryan Acheampong gifts GH₵300,000, plans full reconstruction of Adum shops

The lawmaker said he would formally present his plan to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, this Friday

Abetifi lawmaker and former Agriculture Minister, Bryan Acheampong, says he is ready to reconstruct commercial structures in Kumasi destroyed by fire—if granted the green light by the Asantehene and city authorities.

The MP has pledged to fund the rebuilding of the Blue Light Arena in Adum, where a fire last month gutted several shops, leaving traders devastated and livelihoods disrupted.

“If he [Otumfuo] permits and the assembly permits, I want to rebuild this structure,” Mr Acheampong said, noting that he hopes to put up “a very solid structure” within 12 months.

He also plans to install new stalls at the frontage of the building to help affected traders return to business quickly.

The lawmaker said he would formally present his plan to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, this Friday.

“With his kind permission—and when that is done—we will also look at the political structure and engage them. When that is signed off and is handed to me, this structure will be up,” he added.

Mr Acheampong made these remarks when he donated GH₵300,000 to the fire victims as part of immediate relief efforts on Tuesday (22 April).

The fire at Adum’s Blue Light Arena was one of the worst in recent memory in the Ashanti Region, prompting an outpouring of support from both government officials and philanthropists.
