The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday accused the judiciary and ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of undermining democratic principles with the High Court decision to annul the Kpandai parliamentary election.
Speaking to the press, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye condemned the ruling for setting “a dangerous precedent” by effectively rewarding electoral violence. He cited the vandalism and intimidation at the collation center, which the court allegedly used as justification to void the election.
Boakye warned that the judgment, if allowed to stand, could encourage similar acts of thuggery in future elections and called on the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court to overturn the decision.
“Violence cannot be rewarded. Thuggery cannot triumph,” he said.
“The Kpandai judgment is fundamentally, catastrophically flawed. It misapplies the law, ignores regulation, manipulates evidence, abandons proportionality, and rewards violence. These are not minor errors; they are defects that strike at the heart of electoral justice.
“We respectfully urge you to set this dangerous judgment aside. Restore the mandate the people of Kpandai overwhelmingly gave. Uproot this vicious precedent”, Boakye prayed the Court of Appeal.
The NPP also pledged legal support for MP Matthew Nyindam, emphasizing the party’s commitment to preserving voters’ rights and ensuring the electoral mandate was respected.
