Kotoko set up FA Cup final clash with golden kick after narrow win over Chelsea

Despite dominating proceedings and creating numerous chances, the breakthrough came late in the game, underscoring Kotoko’s wastefulness in front of goal

Asante Kotoko are through to the final of the MTN FA Cup for the first time in eight years following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea at the Akoon Park on Sunday.

Albert Amoah emerged the hero for the Porcupine Warriors, striking in the 81st minute to seal a place in the final and spark wild celebrations among the Kotoko faithful.

Despite dominating proceedings and creating numerous chances, the breakthrough came late in the game, underscoring Kotoko’s wastefulness in front of goal.

This marks the Kumasi-based giants’ first appearance in the FA Cup final since 2017, when they defeated arch-rivals Hearts of Oak 3-1. The club, however, has not lifted the trophy since then and will be keen to end their drought when they face surprise package Golden Kick next month.

Golden Kick produced a spirited performance in the other semi-final, overcoming Attram De Visser 3-1 to book their place in the final for the first time in the club’s history. Their fairytale run has captured the imagination of fans across the country and sets up a compelling David-versus-Goliath showdown.

The grand finale of the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup is scheduled for Saturday 15 June at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.

With history and glory at stake, all eyes will be on Legon as the two sides battle for silverware.
