Kotoko fan’s death: Nsoatre chiefs plan stool room rites if killer is not arrested by Friday
The Nsoatre chiefs also expressed deep concern over the incident, stressing the long-standing relationship between Asanteman and Nsoatre, which dates back to 1730 during the war between the Asantes and the Germans.

The Nsoatre Traditional Council has vowed to perform traditional rites if the suspect behind the fatal stabbing of a Kotoko fan, is not arrested by Friday.
The tragic incident occurred during the matchday 19 fixture at Nana Kromansah Park, where clashes between Nsoatreman FC and Kotoko fans escalated, leading to the death of the victim, Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
Nana Hinney Marfo, the Dabehene of Nsoatre Traditional Council speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (5 February) condemned the unfortunate incident and assured the public that the Council are working closely with security agencies to ensure justice is served.
“We assure the general public that we are working to ensure that the suspect will be arrested. If by Friday he is not arrested, Nananom will enter the stool room and perform some rites,” Hinney Marfo declared.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect is not from Nsoatre but rather from Berekum. Local searches are underway, and authorities are confident that he will be apprehended soon”, he further disclosed.
The Nsoatre chiefs also expressed deep concern over the incident, stressing the long-standing relationship between Asanteman and Nsoatre, which dates back to 1730 during the war between the Asantes and the Germans.
They see the incident as a potential threat to this historical bond and have taken steps to calm tensions.
“And so, a press conference was held on Monday and condolences were extended to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the owner of Asante Kotoko, and the bereaved family…As I said we are making frantic efforts to get that person arrested. By Friday we expect him to be in police custody”, Nana Hinney Marfo assured.
Meanwhile, two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the violent clash, bringing the total number of arrests to five.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, disclosed this during a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday (5 February).
He emphasised that the police are actively pursuing additional suspects linked to the murder to ensure they face justice.
Dr Dampare assured the family of the deceased that law enforcement remains committed to bringing the perpetrators to book while maintaining peace and security in the community.
The Ghana Police Service subsequently released a statement shortly after the IGP’s media encounter. The statement named the two suspects as Isaac Ofosu and Yeboah Augustine.
“Intelligence-led operation is still ongoing to get the rest of the perpetrators arrested to face justice”, the police statement indicated.
