Koforidua: Seven-year-old drowns in school septic tank

The pupil fell in an open septic tank behind his school and was pronounced dead moments later at the hospital

The police in Koforidua in the Eastern Region are investigating the circumstances that led to the drowning of a seven-year-old pupil of High Mowing International School during school hours.

The pupil [name withheld] is said to have drowned in an open septic tank filled with water at the back of the school on Wednesday.

He was rushed to the Eastern Region Hospital, Koforidua but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The public relations officer of the Eastern Regional police command DSP Ebenezer Tetteh in a statement confirmed the incident and said investigations have commenced.

The father of the deceased George Opare Offei told Asaase News that management of the school informed him about the incident on phone.

“Around 7am and around 11:40am, I had a call from the headmistress, after getting the call, what the headmistress said was that my ward is injured and it’s a severe injury so I should meet them at the regional hospital.

“So I called my wife then, we drove to the hospital, when we went my child had just passed on,” he said.
