The High Court in Koforidua has dismissed an election petition filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Suhum, Prince Addo, challenging the victory of Frank Asiedu Bekoe in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
In its ruling, the court said the petitioner failed to provide convincing evidence to justify setting aside the results declared by the Electoral Commission.
The judge held that the alleged electoral irregularities cited in the petition were either not proven or were insufficient to show that the outcome of the election was affected.
According to the court, the claims did not satisfy the legal requirements under Ghana’s electoral framework, noting that election petitions must meet a high threshold before results can be overturned.
As a result, the court dismissed the petition in full, describing it as lacking merit.
Lawyers for the Suhum MP welcomed the ruling, stating that it reflects the will of the electorate and reinforces confidence in the country’s electoral process. They also appealed to all parties to accept the decision and work together to advance development in the constituency.
