Kofi Appiah Ennin close to Ashgold SC take over, hopes to bring club back to Premier League

The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman hopeful for Obuasi West of the Ashanti Region has reached an agreement to take over Ashgold  Sporting Club

Kofi Apianin Ennin has reached an agreement to take over Ashanti Gold Sporting Club, from Dr Kwaku Frimpong who is serving a 10-year ban from football.

The club president Dr Frimpong together with his son Emmanuel Frimpong were banned from Ghana football after their alleged involvement in match-fixing in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.

Ashgold were demoted to division two in May 2022 after the match manipulation scandal.

The former Ghana Premier League champions were subsequently suspended by the FA last year during the 29th Congress for their involvement with the banned officials.

Ashanti Gold in a statement on Tuesday said it was in constant communication with the GFA to regain their footballing status.

Appiah Anin’s takeover marks a pivotal moment for the club, as Ennin is poised to usher in a new era.

“My aim is to bring Ash Gold back to the Premier League and restore the happiness in Obuasi.- he told Happy Sports.

“Football is the only source of happiness here in Obuasi. Since my childhood, football on Sundays has given us a sense of joy”.

“The last three years have been very difficult for us. I wish to make the team active in football again to boost economic activities in the area,” he added.
