FOREWORD

You have heard the Pastors preach, and the counsellors talk several times on the subject of marriage. It is now time to hear what the Economists have to say about the widely deliberated subject of marriage.
Over the last few decades of human development, the trend of the human race has changed really fast. One of the areas of life that has undergone massive twists and turns is the institution of marriage. At the moment there seem to be no difference between what men can do and what women can do, where men can go and where women can go. The role Economics play in human behavior in recent times cannot be overemphasized when it comes to choosing a life partner. People no longer look at beauty, behavior and religion alone but also the economic conditions of prospective husbands and wives before making marrietal commitments to them.

In light of this, it is of essence that young people understand the nature of their own economic behavior and that of others, specifically prospective marriage partners before they can make a more informed decision and choice about marriage. Essien has taken the pain to explain in very simple terms the economic connection between Education, Money and Marriage, and how these variables influence individual choice of marriage.
I am particularly excited about how Essien encourages women to strive higher in their careers as he shares his personal family experience with his readers – he unravels the essence of women economic empowerment and leadership to marriages and particularly child upbringing. This material will therefore challenge the female reader to rise up and go for it all in every endeavor of their lives.
The Economics of marriage is not a material that throws economic jargons to readers for the show of it. In fact, the approach used by Essien in this material is fairly simple and understandable, informative, practical and straight to the point. You don’t need an Economics degree to succeed at reading this book and the bonus takeaway is that, you will begin to think like an Economist when you actually have no Economics degree after reading this book.
Finally, I must say, that I’m highly enthused at Essien’s combination of collections of economic concepts and the valuable infusion of fundamental Christian principles and insights into the human economic behavior enter into the central theme of the Economics of Marriage. In the end, you wouldn’t have to throw away your religious values while reading this book.
