“I want to emphasise Mr Speaker that our colleague (Kennedy Agyapong), has been engaged extensively  on this matter and I have received very positive responses from him and I have no doubt on my mind that steps will be taken to deal with the matter appropriately so that there wouldn’t even be the need to go into that long haul,” Afenyo-Markin said.

“Mr speaker I just wanted to assure the House of these steps that have been taken by the leadership of the majority and we want to work together. The media is not an enemy and we are not enemy to ourselves,” the MP for  Effutu constituency said.

Background

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, referred the MP for Assin Central to the privileges committee upon the request of Tamale North lawmaker, Alhassan Suhuyini, who drew the speaker’s attention to an alleged threat against a journalist with the Multimedia Group, Erastus Asare Donkor.

The speaker directed the committee chaired by the first deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu, to investigate the conduct of the Assin central MP and report to the House which will take the final decision on whether the conduct of the MP was in contempt of Parliament and an abuse of parliamentary privileges.
