Mircales Aboagye: Bawumia didn’t shy away from responsibility

The 2024 presidential candidate of the NPP Mahamudu Bawumia has come under criticism for not accepting responsibility following his "mate comment" in Accra last week

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a spokesperson for the campaign team of the vice-president, has said Mahamudu Bawumia was tasked by the president to spearhead the government’s digitalisation agenda to stimulate socio-economic development.

The IMF has listed digitisation as one of the government’s positive initiatives, which will play a key role in Ghana’s post-COVID-19 economic recovery.

The 2024 presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has come under criticism for not accepting responsibility following his “mate comment” in Accra last week.

However, speaking to Wilberforce Asare on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (12 February), Aboagye said Bawumia did not distance himself from responsibility with the comment.

“…But of course, the economic management team (EMT) is not the manager of the economy, they are only an advisory board to cabinet …so the real decision as to what happens at any time is with cabinet and not EMT.

“Then, he went on to say that, as a vice-president, his job is to support the president’s vision and the president’s execution of that vision, and that the president assigned him a specific responsibility.”

“Which is to re-engineer the digital space, to make it the mainstay of the economy going into the future, and that is what he did, so his office was mandated specifically to focus on an aspect of the economy, which was to reengineer the digital space and ensures that it drives economic growth going into the future,” Miracles Aboagye said.
