DopeNation: Artistes must improve on sound quality

Speaking on Asaase Radio's Between Hours show, the duo said: "Good sounds take us international, but we are only focused on promoting the music"

Story Highlights
  • "As an upcoming artiste if you need support financially, you should go for a record label, because it’s like a business transaction, you need to always know what you are offering the label and what you are getting back, since you are their product, you have to make money for them in return."

Ghanaian musical duo DopeNation on Wednesday advised artistes to focus more on improving the sound quality of their music in order to break into the international market.

“Good sounds take us international, but we are only focused on promoting the music and we are not able to meet international standards to qualify for international award nominations,” the duo told Naa Ashorkor.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s Between Hours show, they reiterated that most artistes do not pay attention to the sound quality of their music.

“If our sound was of quality, we would have Grammy nominations, most of the sound from some artistes are not good enough to meet international standards. We have to accept this and work on our sound,” the Ghanaian musical duo of identical twin brothers, composed of Micheal Boafo, popularly known as B2, and Tony Boafo, known as Twist said on the show.

They added that although the industry has wonderful artistes, Ghanaians are also “enjoying songs with a not so good sound quality.”

Record labels

DopeNation again charged budding acts to sign on to record labels to address their financial needs.

“As an upcoming artiste if you need support financially, you should go for a record label, because it’s like a business transaction, you need to always know what you are offering the label and what you are getting back, since you are their product, you have to make money for them in return.

“With $5000 you can produce one really quality sound song,” they said.

The duo also appealed to the government to invest in artistes to enable them produce good sounds in music.
