John Mahama: I have the experience and vision to ‘reset’ Ghana

Mahama urged members of parliament of the party who lost in the primaries to continue to put their experiences at the service of the party

The newly elected flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, says he has the experience and vision to reset the country to the path of prosperity.

He stated that he is ready to lead the country to turn things around, saying this is a crucial time with no need to experiment leadership.

Mahama said this while delivering his acceptance speech in Tamale after he was declared winner in the NDC presidential primary election.

The event was attended by senior members of the party, including its national chairman, general secretary, the party’s 2020 vice presidential candidate, minority leader in parliament, former first lady (Lordina Mahama) and relatives of the flagbearer.

On Saturday 13 May, Mahama polled 297,603 votes representing 98.9% of the total valid ballots cast to lead the opposition party in the 2024 general election.

Mahama accused the ruling government of mismanaging the economy resulting in hardship on the people. He reiterated the need for the NDC members, sympathisers and the citizenry to vote for him to win the 2024 elections to reset the country on the path of prosperity.

He said his tour over the country showed a lot of challenges and promised to ensure prudent management of the economy, deliver infrastructure and restore confidence in the economy.

On his resounding victory during the primaries, he said it is a signal by the NDC to win the 2024 general election. He thanked delegates and party members for believing in him, saying “I pledge to lead you into a resounding victory in 2024.” He acknowledged his contenders for a healthy competition.

Mahama urged members of parliament of the party who lost in the primaries to continue to put their experiences at the service of the party.

He called on party members to rededicate themselves to the party with their resources to win the 2024 elections at both presidential and parliamentary levels.

He said, “we will campaign vigorously,” adding that the campaigns will be decentralized. Branches and constituencies will be empowered to set targets and achieve them.

He thanked the Electoral Commission for working hard to ensure successful elections.
