Buem MP urges chainsaw operators to prioritise safety

Kofi Adams, has urged chainsaw operators to obtain the necessary permit in administering their craft

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Buem, Kofi Iddie Adams, has urged chainsaw operators to obtain the necessary permit and follow the standard guidelines in administering their craft.

This follows the incident of a felled tree which had blocked the road causing a traffic jam on Saturday 8 April at Buem Odumase in the Buem Constituency. This affected the MP and the Jasikan municipal coordinating director who were on their way to a festival in the town.

Other road users were on their way to funerals and other events in nearby towns.

The chainsaw operator who felled the tree did not have the proper permit and authorisation to engage in the trade. His machine was also in a poor condition. When the MP arrived at the scene, he called for backup from Jasikan.

Adams expressed disappointment with the chainsaw operator for his negligence.

He cautioned him to apply for a permit and follow proper procedure in future. The MP urged the chainsaw operator to prioritise the safety of the community when cutting down trees.

This incident draws attention to the need for improved regulation of the activities of chainsaw operators.

Illegal logging continues to pose a significant threat to both environmental sustainability and the livelihoods of local communities.
