GHAMRO’s incompetence could trigger attack on them, says George Jahraa

GHAMRO is tasked with the duty of collecting and distributing royalties on behalf of authors/composers and other right owners

Renowned highlife musician, George Jahraa has lambasted the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) for failing to effectively carry out its responsibilities.

GHAMRO is tasked with the duty of collecting and distributing royalties on behalf of authors and composers and other right owners.

Some artists in the country have recently expressed frustrations over their inability to earn royalties from their creative works in the Ghana raising concerns over the effectiveness of the organisation.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (8 November), George Jahraa said the attitude exhibited by the executives could trigger a gun attack on one of them.

“I don’t want someone to feel like am lambasting them but they should agree they are not doing things right. We have elderly men like Amakye Dede, Oheneba Kissi and many others who can inject fresh ideas into the organisation,” he said.

“One day, at an annual general meeting, someone might shoot somebody, I have been saying these for some time now,….its very hard but its true. If you talk to some of the boys, you could sense they are so angry,” Jahraa added.
