Ho: Immigration Service seizes 2,497 parcels of marijuana

The GIS sector commander for Nyive in the Volta Region, Abdulai Zakaria, said the marijuana consignment has been handed over to the Narcotics Control Commission

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in the Volta Region on Tuesday (26 July) intercepted over 2,000 parcels of substances suspected to be marijuana.

The sector commander for Nyive, Abdulai Zakaria, said the consignment has been handed over to the Narcotics Control Commission, and that the owners of the contraband fled on seeing GIS officers.

Zakaria called on the general public to continue to provide information to the security agencies to counter such activities.

He said the GIS will continue to be proactive in the Volta Region, especially at unapproved entry points along the border with Togo.

In 2021, the Ghana Immigration Service in the Volta Region intercepted over 3,000 parcels of illegal drugs. Roughly 760 illegal immigrants were also arrested and repatriated to their various countries between 2021 and the first quarter of 2022.
