Interior Minister renews curfew on Alavanyo and Nkonya townships

The curfew now runs from 6pm to 6am, effective Sunday, 19 May 2024

The Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey, has reviewed the curfew hours in Alavanyo and Nkonya townships and surrounding areas in the Oti Region.

The curfew now runs from 6pm to 6am, effective Sunday, 19 May 2024.

This came after broader consultations and critical monitoring of the situation to extend the curfew hours.

This was made possible based on the information and advice provided by the Oti Regional Coordinating Council, as indicated in a press release by the Interior Ministry.

The decision to renew the curfew is aimed at ensuring coexistence and promoting peace and unity among the residents of the areas.

In a statement, Quartey said, “The Minister for the Interior has by Executive Instrument renewed the Curfew hours imposed on Alavanyo and Nkonya Townships and their environs in the Oti Region from 6:00pm to 6:00am effective Sunday, 19 May 2024

“Government continues to express its gratitude to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area for their efforts in ensuring peace in the area and called on them to use the established mechanisms for the resolution of all their conflicts and disputes.”

This, according to the ministry, when adhered to, will not only promote peace and unity but will also go a long way towards protecting lives and properties, making it possible for residents to go about their daily activities with no worries or discomfort.
