Ing Mark Awuah Baah appointed new GRIDCo CEO

Prior to his appointment, Ing Mark Awuah Baah was a director in charge of Systems Operations of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo)

Ing Mark Awuah Baah has been appointed the acting chief executive officer of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo).

It follows the successful end of tenure of his predecessor Jonathan Amoako-Baah. Prior to his appointment, Ing Baah was a director in charge of Systems Operations of GRIDCo.

Ing Baah was among staff of VRA who were moved to join GRIDCo when the country’s electricity sector was unbundled, leading to the creation of the power transmission company.

Baah was appointed Director of Systems Operations at Ghana Grid Company Limited in 2017.

About Baah

He was previously the manager, market operations and the special assistant to the GRIDCo CEO and was instrumental in the transition and operationalisation of GRIDCo.

The newly appointed CEO holds degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), an MSc. degree in Electromechanical Engineering from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute and an MBA from Leeds University Business School.

Good decision

Meanwhile, the Senior Staff Association (SSA) of GRIDCo has hailed the appointment of Ing Baah describing it as a step in the right direction.

A statement issued by the SSA said: “Following the announcement of the appointment of Ing. Mark Awuah Baah as the acting CEO of GRIDCo, the leadership of the Staff Groups welcome this decision of His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and thank him for making the right decision in the best interest of the company and mother Ghana.”

“We also appreciate our sector minister, Hon. Minister of Energy Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh for his endorsement. We wish to note that Ing. Mark Baah’s appointment has brought great relief to the entire workers of GRIDCo and has deepened the confidence of staff that hardwork, dedication and competence still pays,” the statement.

The association has pledged its commitment to work with the newly appointed CEO.

“We wish to congratulate Ing. Mark Awuah Baah and wish to express our cooperation in working together to move GRIDCo to another level in the provision of reliable grid for development.”
