Implementation of sanitary pads for adolescent girls, welcoming – APL commends Mahama

The NDC, per their practiced ideology, must be seen to be doing more in the implementation of such social intervention policies

The policy think tank Africa Policy Lens has welcomed President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to supply sanitary pads to adolescent girls in secondary schools.

In a note copied to media houses, the founding President of APL, Dr George Domfe, said that providing free sanitary pads to girls in secondary schools is a social policy intervention that must be lauded.

“The government’s distribution of sanitary pads to girls in secondary schools deserves commendation. It was a promise made by President John Mahama before the 2024 elections, and he has fulfilled it. It is welcoming,” he stressed.

He further stated that the NDC must be seen as implementing many more social intervention policies to help the populace in diverse ways as a social democratic political party.

“The NDC, per their practiced ideology, must be seen to be doing more in the implementation of such social intervention policies,” he said.

“This sanitary pad distribution fulfillment is laudable; more should be done in that field to capture many more Ghanaians,” he added.

Dr Domfe advised that the government should ensure that the sanitary pads are locally produced to grow the industry and create employment opportunities for Ghanaians within the production areas.

“We advise that these sanitary pads be produced by a Ghanaian company so that the economy within the catchment areas would be positively affected. This should not be imported, we advise” Dr. Domfe said in his concluding remarks.
