Mauricio Pochettino hints at more transfers in January after Everton defeat

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino believes his side may need to delve into the January transfer market for reinforcements after losing two-nil at Everton in the Premier League on Sunday, their seventh this season.

Chelsea are now in the bottom half of the league and Pochettino suggests they should be looking at the January transfer window despite having spent over £1 billion already under the new owners.

Pochettino will be boosted by the return of Christopher Nkunku from a knee injury in the coming weeks, but after the Everton loss, he indicated that more firepower may be required.

“After the first half of the season, we need to check. That is the reality. If we’re not aggressive enough, maybe we need to do something, some movement.”

“That is something to analyse with the sporting directors, with the owners, and see what we can do to change this dynamic. We need to be more aggressive. It’s not only to dominate and play well, it’s to compete better.”

“It’s a massive assessment from the beginning of the season, and then when the transfer window opens see what we can do.

“I’m not saying I’m going to ask for more or less players, but it’s to see if the perception matches the reality. If expectation is here and reality is here, it’s because we’re missing something in the middle. Maybe we need to improve our reality.”
