For Jacqueline Du Baffour, her fascination with data did not begin in a corporate boardroom—it started with childhood savings in her grandmother’s home in Ghana.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (25 November), the Agile delivery lead and certified data protection officer recounted how a simple tradition of saving money from visitors sparked her love for numbers.
“My grandmother taught me how to save. I think that’s where my numerate passion started from,” she said. “I love crunching numbers. I like analysing dashboards. My mentors even say I’m too analytical.”
Du Baffour, who has worked in finance and now in data-driven pharmaceutical projects at AstraZeneca, said she has always been surrounded by information—first in Kumasi, later in London, and now in the data-heavy corporate environments she leads.
She recalled her time at Greens Baptist School in Kumasi, where excelling peers pushed her to sharpen her mathematics skills.
“By the time we completed, 60 students finished. Now, six of them are doctors—that’s 10%,” she said with a laugh. “I was doing Pythagoras, algebra, statistics with friends who were even faster than me. It motivated me.”
Her love for data now underpins major sustainability projects, including energy-consumption dashboards for AstraZeneca’s manufacturing sites.
“The real gold is actually data,” she noted. “Even when you wake up, you’re producing data.”
Du Baffour’s story demonstrates how childhood lessons, academic competition and curiosity can evolve into a world-class, data-driven career.
