Stonebwoy to fans: Pray for celebrities to keep us going

The dancehall artiste wants Ghanaians to be measured in criticism towards celebrities because of their frailty

Ghanaian dancehall and Afropop artiste, Stonebwoy, has said depression and mental health should be taken seriously.

Speaking in an interview with Elvis Crystal on Asaase Radio’s Rush Hour, the BET award winner, said fans should “pray” for celebrities instead of taking to social media to criticise everything they did” because “we’re also human beings … and mental health is real.”

“We need prayers,” he said. “Let’s pray for our celebrities, to be able to keep up, to be able to keep us going, bringing us good entertainment… we all know what’s going on in town lately.”

He urged fans to “send love to celebrities” because although they are “looked up to globally and are supposed to energise and send sweet vibes to people” they “hardly get it.”

“COVID got me thinking the afterlife”

Meanwhile, Stonebwoy has also shared some impacts of COVID-19 on his life. He said he was “able to spend a lot of time with family, and got himself to understand some levels of spirituality.”

The pandemic, he noted, “got him thinking the afterlife” and taught him “there’s an end to everything.” He jokingly added that “if we wake up today, and for instance, WhatsApp is shut down, …imagine it stayed like that for a year … no more WhatsApp in life, we’re going back in the stone age.”

He revealed that being in that reflective space inspired him to write a few songs.

He also told fans he was putting together a Bhim concert dubbed “Bhim of Hope” in December, to compensate for his “Ashaiman to the World” concert.

“We’re going to double it all up and have the Bhim Concert the way that you may have never imagined,” he said.
