IFEST to government: Engage independent bodies to audit vacancies at public SHS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended the headmaster of the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO), and the housemaster following allegations that they= school has converted toilet facilities into dormitories.

The executive director of the Institute for Education Service (IFEST), Peter Partey-Anti, has suggested to the government to engage independent bodies in auditing of vacancies in public senior high schools in Ghana.

His comment is in reference to the suspension of the headmaster and senior housemaster of Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) following allegations that the school has converted toilet facilities into dormitories.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (18 April), Partey-Anti said such moves will ensure transparency in the educational sector.

“I think what we should do, is to start doing audit of vacancies that are declared by headmasters. I remember that was one of the terms of reference of coordinators of the Free SHS in the districts,” he said.

“But I think that when vacancies are declared by headmasters, those vacancies should be audited by another body to ensure that the number of beds that have been declared is the same as the number of beds on the ground.

“I think when we do that, we will be able to solve some of these issues, but in terms of infrastructure, I believe that we should continue to improve upon infrastructure not only at the secondary level,” Partey-Anti added.
