Idris Elba named Son of Ga land, pledges support for Ghana’s film industry

Idris Elba/Son of Ga land

Acclaimed British actor Idris Elba has been officially honored as a son of Ga land during a special ceremony at the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra on Tuesday (25 March 2025).

The honor acknowledges his dedication to the African diaspora and his ongoing support for Ghana’s creative industry.

Justice Naa Yaale, Chief of Staff to the Ga Mantse and daughter of Ghana’s independence icon Ako Adjei, led the warm reception for Elba.

The event was marked by energetic drumming, traditional dancing, and a vibrant display of Ga heritage.

Addressing attendees, Idris Elba reaffirmed his vision for Africa’s film sector, revealing plans to establish a state-of-the-art film studio and training school near Osu Castle.

The 22-acre facility aims to provide aspiring Ghanaian creatives with the necessary tools and opportunities to thrive in the global entertainment industry.

Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, lauded Idris Elba’s initiative, highlighting its transformative impact. “Our children and youth need direction, and this project will help shape the future of the creative arts industry,” he said.

Elba’s commitment to Ghana’s entertainment landscape reflects his broader mission of strengthening ties between Africa and the global film industry, creating pathways for emerging talent while preserving and celebrating the country’s rich cultural heritage.
