I want to re-examine James Ankomah Ninfah, Gyakye Quayson tells court

James Gyakye Quayson is the MP (NDC) for Assin North in the Central Region

Embattled Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson, has filed an application through his lawyer, Tsatsu Tsikata, to have the first witness in the perjury case against him re-examined.

According to him, some questions were left unanswered by the first witness, James Ankomah Ninfah, during an earlier cross-examination.

He accused the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, of guiding some responses through objections raised when his lawyer was questioning the testimony of the witness.

This development comes after the prosecution presented a second witness, Sadiq Abubakar Yahya, to testify against the embattled MP, James Gyakye Quayson.

In his submission, Tsatsu Tsikata said he was not satisfied that the court failed to furnish the accused and his legal team with the proceedings of 19 July 2023 on the notion that some technical issues occasioned the loss of the days of proceedings, hence the court should allow for a re-examination of the first witness.

He furthered that his legal team had reported the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, to the General Legal Council over his misconduct in one of the proceedings, which they think dents the ethics of the legal profession.

This was sharply objected to by the prosecution led by Chief State Attorney, Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa, who argued that the court, in it’s wisdom, should allow an hour before making up the lost proceeding after July 19th’s which was not objected to by Tsatsu Tsikata when the court explained the unfortunate event.

The chief attorney asked the court to dismiss the application as such since it lacks merit.

In her ruling on the application as filed by lawyers for James Gyakye Quayson, the court presided over by Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh dismissed the application, asking the Assin North MP’s lawyer to write to the Registrar of the Court if their intention is to find out how the proceedings got missing.

She expressed her surprise at how Tsatsu Tsikata could file such an application when he agreed to the court’s directive on the matter.

The case has been adjourned to 19 February 2024.
