I had wanted to be a mining engineer because of Sam Jonah, says Asantehene’s daughter

The founder of CERVIVA Ghana Foundation, Caryn Agyeman Prempeh has said she had wanted to be a mining engineer because of her admiration for distinguished Ghanaian mining industry icon Sam Jonah.

Agyeman Prempeh is a beloved daughter of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Affectionately called Ohemaa, studied biomedical Science at the University College of London and later pursued medicine at the School of Medical science at the KNUST in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (15 May), Agyeman Prempeh said she had really wanted to be the female version of Sam Jonah.

“I had always wanted to be a mining engineer because of what I saw Sir Sam Jonah do. I had wanted to be a female version of him growing up.

“However, I had an experience with him, I don’t know whether it was intentional or not. So we went down the mine and it started getting a bit darker and then I said, how do we go back? He says we can’t go back, we have to keep going till we come out.”

“And from that day, I sort of drifted from it and I said I’m not going to be hidden down here. Sadly, now it is interesting down there. It is more or less like up here … maybe I should have been a bit just patient but I wasn’t …” Agyeman Prempeh said.
