I believe my party has won the presidency, says Kufuor

Former President John Kufuor says this year's presidential and parliamentary elections have been a very tight race

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor says he believes his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has won the 7 December presidential poll.

Kufour says he has been staying up throughout the night monitoring the results of the polls.

He said he would have wished the NPP performed well in the parliamentary election adding, “but I believe that marginally we are taking the House.”

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show with Kojo Mensah on Tuesday, Kufuor said: “Thank God, I believe that my party has won the presidency. Parliament I quite expected to have performed far better than it has so far.”

Whether he is disappointed in the results so far President Kufuor said “… but I thought we would do far better than that…the country appreciated the party, otherwise our president wouldn’t have performed as well as he did.

“But this shows that people are very discerning these days – they affect people individually and on merit, so they(electorates) distinguish between the president and the MPs,” Kufuor added.

So far, provisional results cited by www.asaaseradio.com show President Akufo-Addo is leading the presidential race by 654,0339 (51.61%) of about 37293 polling stations results with John Mahama obtaining 5,962,390 (47.05%).
